FRRO Round 2, 3 & 4 and MHA Round 2

I had this all set to post earlier this month but for some reason I apparently hit save instead of publish. So here it all is now, updated of course.

May 4, 2011
Today hubby went alone to the FRRO to drop off our marriage certificate. When he got there they told him that he needed his and his fathers proof of residence here. Then he has to come back tomorrow with it and they will give him a form to take to the police to get the police inquiry done. He can't make up his mind if he's taking me or not because he wants me to talk to these ppl instead of him. He gets a little nervous and he's worried he won't ask the right questions.

Hubby went back to the FRRO today to drop off the papers that were requested. For some reason he chose to take his dad instead of me. I tried to tell him I had to go in person but he seemed to think his dad would be better. I don't know how because his dad is entirely clueless about this whole process. Either way they got what they needed. The FRRO gave us a police report form that we needed to get done.

Hubby called his friend who is on the police force and enlisted his help. We had to get sworn affidavits from neighbors stating who they were, how long I lived here, were they aware of the marriage, etc. All of them had attended the wedding and believe me, they watch everything I do so that was no challenge lol. It took like 30 minutes to get all of them done, signed and collected. I think we only needed 2 but this is Punjab and 30 minutes is ultra fast for anything.

It took another 3 hours for hubby and his friend to finish filling out all the papers and making sure everything was done right and getting copies. His friend turned in all the papers for him and now all we can do is wait.

I called the FRRO to see if everything was done processing and if they had gotten the police report back yet. The guy was nice but didn't understand me too well but finally got enough information and checked and told me they didn't have it back yet.

Then not 10 minutes later he called hubby to say they did. I guess he didn't understand me as well as I thought lol. he told hubby to come and get the paperwork because we now have to go back to the MHA office. They gave us a sealed envelope to deliver to he MHA and told us we will again get another sealed envelope to bring back to them. They also told us this needed to be done within 2-3 days. Ha! There were 167 ppl on the waiting list for the train, no plane tickets available both ways and his parents don't want me on the bus. I doubt we could get on the bus anyway given how the other options were gone.

We finally made it to the MHA today. We got there early though it made little difference. When they handed out token numbers it didn't matter what order you got there in, it only mattered if you were in the room. The workers were 20 minutes late arriving as it was. We got number 16. Thankfully after we got our visitor's pass we went up to the Visa Facilitation Center and wound up being second for the USA counter. It again went really quick and they opened the packet we had brought from our FRRO and said come back at 5 pm. So we spent the day shopping and eating and then went back and picked up our sealed envelope.

  1. Wow, things seem going really smooth. Is Rohit moving to the US with you soon? How long are you going to be there in Punjab? I wish you the best and I look forward to more exciting news about the visa, immigration and so much more, soon. :)

  2. He will go with me to the US sometime in the future. We have no idea when. There's a lot of government paperwork and money involved in sorting all that out and I'm just not rich enough to think about it yet lol.
