Working from India

I've worked online for several years as a supplement to my income and now that I'm staying in India for several months it has become my entire income. It's frustrating though because the internet here is horrible, the power goes out randomly every day and for some reason everything in India takes significantly longer than anything in America ever does. I guess that's where the phrase 'Indian Timing' comes from. If you are not already here, just be forewarned that anytime someone says it will take 15 minutes, you should expect it to take at least two hours. If you are trying to purchase something and you don't leave the store with it, even though they promise, you will never get it lol. That's just how it is here.

So I've been writing and it's becoming increasingly hard to find topics and complete them. Sometimes articles that took me 30 minutes or less now take days. I click save multiple times to make sure I don't lose anything if the power goes out and searching on 30KB internet sometimes makes me feel like I'm back in the 90's when my mom purchased the first home computer our family ever had. It does bring back some humorous memories of 1200KB modems though I can't imagine why I found that so exciting when the internet wasn't nearly as much fun back then. All we had was bulletin boards and such and, can you imagine, NO GOOGLE!

Anyway, back to reality. Now I'm sitting here in my room with more privacy than I've had since I got here typing away and that 30KB actually seems reasonable for what I'm doing. Talk about a reality check. In the states I was sure I needed that 7 megabaud internet. Of course we had an XBox, Wii, and PS3 all running off that same internet while I was surfing and simultaneously downloading every file imaginable. Life is just so much more simple here in India.

All this searching for work to keep up my income has led me across some interesting discoveries and new topics to write about. Now I just have to figure out how to add a link list to my blog. It's exciting because though I've always loved to write, I've always just been average or barely above. Now that's all I have to do is write and it's great. I can't wait to start sharing that with you guys and the world.
